Mongezi Ncaphayi was born in Benoni and currently lives and works in Cape Town. After obtaining his Diploma in Art and Design from the Ekurhuleni East College in 2005, Ncaphayi completed a professional printmaking course at Artist Proof Studio as well as a certificate in Advanced Studies from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Ncaphayi is a recipient of the Absa L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto Award, The Ampersand Foundation Fellowship in New York City as well as many residencies all over the world. Represented by the SMAC Gallery, Ncaphayi has presented several solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions locally and internationally. 

His work is included in a number of important collections, including the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington DC; the Bibliothéque Nationale de France and the Museum of Fine Art in Boston , USA.
