Day Nine: Lehlogonolo Mashaba
In his drawings and prints, Mashaba investigates the notion of thought as a base of origins of life. He incorporates inconceivable texts and lines in his work to construct figures, attempting to establish a dialogue between mind, body, spirit and technology.
He is paying homage to information and how it can be distorted over a period of time to take the shape of the translucent human form. The mark-making depicts traces of mystical energies; of fragmented bodies in a state of integration or disintegration in non-objective form.
Born in Kwa-Thema in 1983, Mashaba began his art education at the Funda Centre and later studied design and printmaking at the Artist Proof Studio.
